H1Z1, DayZ, WarZ, 7 Days to Die, you name it, have seen their fair share of spotlight in the PC scene but dare I say it, all have been subpar as a complete product and marred with bugs, disappointments from devs, roadmap issues, growing issues with PVP and a community that can’t seem to embrace a more cooperative form of online play.
I personally loved DayZ but now, development is so slow, focusing on survival aspects which are not core what people loved about the game in the first place and seems disconnected from their player base. General Sam on YouTube puts it much better and here’s a clip for you if you’re interested.
Now, the best seller on Steam as I write this is PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, which is a great game in it’s own right, expanding on the Battle Royale nature of Dayz and popular Arma 3 mods, but I’m still waiting for that ultimate zombie survival game that promotes cooperation because the zombie apocalypse is actually a real threat and provides more active decision making than just go here, loot that, PVP, rinse and repeat.
And with the STALKER Ray of Hope mod still being developed with no release date set as of yet, I went searching and found an interesting title to scratch my survival FPS itch…. A very interesting title.
The game is called Survive the Nights and from what I’ve seen, it’s beautiful. The core game mechanics can be summed up into:
If Dayz and Don’t Starve: Together had a baby, it would be Survive the Nights.
From a trailer that’s already been released, the game is an online, zombie survival sandbox game. You have everything form resource gathering, weapon maintenance, base building, vehicles, crafting, survival mechanics and even mental state management like Don’t Starve. Check out the trailer below.
So, as you can tell, I am officially pumped and pre-ordered. But when does it release? Well, you can preorder from Humble Bundle now, but you can’t gain access as there is no Early Access on Steam yet, but forums state within the next few months. Regrettably no official word as of yet.
If you’re keen on keeping up with the development of this game, stay tuned as we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one!
